My walk began at the Eastern side of Swinsty reservoir where there is a good sized carpark with a nice picnic area at the waters edge. From the carpark I headed over the causeway before following a footpath into the woods.
It was extremely boggy underfoot as the recent snowfall had melted making the ground very wet and muddy.
After crossing a few fields the footpath brought me out to a road and The Sun Inn pub came into view. Unfortunately it was a little early at 10.45am for a pint of the cold stuff! So, after crossing the road and passing infront of the pub and through the snicket in the wall more fields and mud came were ahead of me!
Bank Slack, an ancient track believed to have been constructed around two thousand years ago, soon came into view....
And it became apparent that the last strong winds had caused quite alot of damage to the trees that once lined the.....
Upon reaching a derelict farmhouse after a short climb I could see Beaver Dyke Reservoir below.
A memorial bench that stood on the hillside made an excellent early lunch stop!
I dropped down from the hillside to the dam between Beaver Dyke reservoir and John O' Gaunts reservoir to enable me to climb the other side of the valley to the remains of John O' Gaunts Castle. This castle (some believe it was a hunting lodge) is supposed to date back to the 1300's. I have to say, I was a little disappointed as there wasn't very much of it left at all!
The route back to Swinsty took me through several fields which were all well marked and then back to The Sun Inn Pub at Norwood before retracing my steps back through the woods to the carpark at Swinsty.
