I've often passed Penhill, Wensleydale in the car and wanted to climb up to the top but for one reason or another I never got around to it! So on New Year's Day 2013 I decided it was time to hike up to the summit! I parked at West Witton, a pretty village between Leyburn and Hawes on the A684. The steep 1200' hike up to the summit via West Witton Moor was hard going at times as the shale footpath zigzagged up the hillside. The views over Wensleydale and Coverdale after the uphill slog were superb!
Below is just a small collection of my images from the day:
West Witton
Penhill summit - 1727' (526m)
Penhill End - Well worth a coffee stop!
Beautiful views over Wensleydale on descent
